An unforgettable experience.
Becoming a host family is a fantastic experience and is very rewarding. We get lovely praise from our students visiting Guernsey about the time spent with their host families.
It’s a great opportunity for your household to make new friends and work on their own language skills!
What host families say
What does a host family do?
A host family is a very special group of people who are able to welcome a young person into their home and allow the student the chance to enrich their lives while also enriching their own lives. Host families come in all shapes and sizes.
Our hosts act as a point of support for their guests, helping them to get settled, find their feet and navigate life in Guernsey. As a result, many of our students keep in touch with their hosts long after they depart. This is one of the many rewarding aspects of becoming a host family.
Our friendly team handles everything from dealing with the students through to your payments, so all you need to do is welcome your student with open arms when they arrive.

What does a host family provide?
Host families are asked to provide their student with:
- A room in their home with a bed and closet space.
- All meals – packed lunch for school days.
- A safe and supportive environment.
- A chance to become part of your family.
Host families are not responsible for paying any further costs for the student. Students arrive with their own spending money for activities, school costs, personal expenses, and travel, etc.
Students have their own insurance for medical and other potential costs.
All families will receive support including a Host Family handbook, Hosting information sheets, support from Accent and a 24/7 emergency number.
Who can be a host family?
Anyone in Guernsey can be a host family for an exchange student: Whether you are a couple with children, single or without children, we want to hear from you. It doesn’t matter whether you live in a house with a big garden, or whether you live in a flat in town. If you have space for a student (or two or more!) and would like to host, we would love to welcome you to our hosting family.
Host families do not need to speak a foreign language, we just ask that you speak English.
The exchange student must have their own bed, but may share a room with one of your children or another exchange student. Students can only share with people of the same sex.
