Top 5 things to do in Guernsey this summer

When people think of Guernsey they think of Guernsey Cows, ice cream and beaches but there’s a lot more going on here than that. These are our top 5 things to do in Guernsey this summer for music lovers, shoppers or those looking for a great night out with friends.

1. Sure Comedy Festival featuring Lee Nelson

The Sure Comedy Festival invites UK’s top Comedians to perform live stand up entertainment throughout comedy week starting 13th May through to 21st May. Performances for everyone, of all ages and comedy tastes, including Kids Comedy with Ben van der Velde and my personal favourite, and recently controversial, Lee Nelson.

Lee Nelson is the cheeky Chav character played by Simon Benjamin Brodkin, hilarous and clever comedy, but also known to perform other comedy characters.

What better way to improve your conversational English than to go to a comedy night? We Brits like nothing better than to watch live stand up comedy so this year’s Sure Comedy Festival will be a real treat.

2. Killer Queen – Outdoor Concert at Castel Cornet

Any Queen fans out there? To celebrate the Queens 90th Birthday Guernsey have invited one of the UK’s best tribute bands ‘Killer Queen’ to perform live on stage in the beautiful grounds of Castle Cornet. This band is quoted “a living jukebox an absolutely fantastic show…you feel the hair stand up on the back of your neck”

This concert on Saturday 11th June includes a licensed bar.

3. Liberation Day 2016

The celebrations on Liberation Day commemorate the Islanders freedom from German Occupation during World War II. This is a very special day for Guernsey and very significant in the Islands history.

This year Liberation Day will mark the final day of The Channel Islands Heritage Festival. Castle Cornet will be hosting the special Liberation Music Festival from 3pm following lots of activities and events around St Peter Port and beyond. This is a day when the Island stops to remember.

4. Sark Folk Festival 2016

For music lovers this 3 day music festival 1 – 3rd July is not to be missed. The Sark Folk Festival for visitors is an opportunity to visit the wonderful Sark Island, relax for 3 days of wonderful live music performances and enjoy camping under the stars or staying in a B&B. Sark is a ‘car free Island’ making this experience all the more enjoyable.
