Chaperone

Fixed Contract ~ Weekend Travel ~ Fixed Reimbursement

The Position

Every summer, Accent Language School welcome students aged between 11-17 from various parts of Europe for our popular Summer School English learning programme.

For students travelling to us from Saint Malo and then back again, we offer a Chaperone Service to ensure a safe crossing.

This is a unique role, perfect for someone with free weekends who likes to visit Saint Malo but who is also very responsible and caring.

Responsibilities

The Accent Chaperone will travel to Saint Malo every Saturday with our departing students, and then return to Guernsey with our new students every Sunday (subject to ferry schedules).

The Chaperone will be responsible for the group of students they are accompanying, from meeting them at the harbour, checking in and boarding with them.  Chaperones should sit with the students as a group, and disembark with them, remaining with students until handover with either host families or real families.

Chaperones must be at Guernsey harbour at least one hour prior to departure and at least ninety minutes prior to departure in Saint Malo, as French families will often arrive extra early to meet the Chaperone and hand over their child.

As this is the first time that some parents will be handing their child over – the chaperone should be aware of Accent’s programme and Summer School operation and be able to reassure the parents to the best of their ability.

Free Time & Payment

Once the departing students have been returned to their parents in the Saint Malo ferry terminal, the Chaperone is then free to do as they wish.  Accent will pay for both the ferry tickets and hotel accommodation close by in the Walled City.

Whilst this is not a paid position as such, Chaperones will be given £100 per trip for meals/expenses.

Chaperones must be at the St Malo ferry terminal at least 90 minutes before departure to greet the new students.

Experience

Essential:

–          18+

–          Obtain and provide a valid DBS check (we can help to obtain one if Chaperone does not already have a current DBS through other means)

–          Native or good command of English language

–          Ability to motivate and direct a young group of people

–          Strong communication skills

Desirable:

–          Have experience working with 11-17 years old

–          Have a second language (French preferable)
